前言 Introduction

“《鸿运当头》是关于我在朱家角的感受和我遇到的人。在来之前，我只知道西方主流媒体告诉我的关于中国的事情。我对这里存在的亚文化或其中的人们一无所知。

现在，我三个月的驻地即将结束，感觉我离开时收获比刚来时多得太多。

我学到了很多东西，作为一个人成长了，结交了我将终生珍惜的友谊；有些事情我从未想到会发生。

这些经历和关系启发了我为这次开幕的名字。我感到永远幸运和感激能遇到你们所有人，我无法回报你们对我的教诲和给予。

这个开幕式是对我迄今为止生命中最重要的三个月的庆祝和反思。

我花了很多时间在工作室和街上绘画。这段时间我一直在尝试做更多实验，学习更多知识，听取建议，尝试新事物。所有这些都是为了在个人和艺术家方面得到更多发展。这些作品反映了我在这里的旅程，从我开始的地方到现在的地方。我仍然觉得实验还没有结束，但多亏了好运，我来到了朱家角，我觉得我正朝着正确的方向前进。

“A Stroke of Luck is a reference to how I feel about being in Zhujiajiao and the people I have met. Before arriving I knew only what mainstream media had told me about China. I didn’t know anything about the subcultures that existed here or the people that were a part of them.

I am now at the tail end of my 3 month residency and feel as though I am leaving having gained so much more than I had when I arrived.

I have learned a lot, grown as a person, and made friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life; some things I never expected to happen.

These experiences and relationships are what inspired the name of this opening. I feel eternally lucky and grateful to have met you all and have no way I can pay you back for how much you have taught me and given me.

This opening is a celebration and a reflection on what has been potentially the most important 3 months of my life so far.

I spent a lot of time painting in the studio and outside of it. The whole time I have been trying to experiment more, learn more, take advice, and try new things. All In order to develop more as a person and an artist. These works are a reflection of my journey here, from where I begun to where I am now. I still do not feel like the experimentation is finished just yet but thanks to a stroke of luck, landing in Zhujiajiao, I feel like I am heading in the right direction.

And again, thank you to everyone I have met along the way. You have been very influential to me.”

CREZ1967 is a multi-disciplinary artist from Aotearoa, New Zealand. CREZ was born and raised in Aotearoa and is a self-taught artist.

He likes to explore his imagination and uses it and experiences in day-to-day life as his primary sources of inspiration.

Rather than making work with deep mumble jumble philosophical meanings, CREZ tries to make work that is fun, playful, interesting, and weird. It’s that simple. A lot of his work tends to be inspired by cartoons and comics. Something that he agrees with and says it is linked to the idea of remaining youthful at heart and mind.

But also has something to do with the feeling he gets when he looks at the world and it seems flat. People are beginning to look more and more the same in how they dress. Buildings look the same, cars are beginning to look the same. Everything is becoming more manufactured and soulless. It feels as though as a society we are slowly being sucked of character and individuality. The things that make each of us unique. So he makes artwork as a reaction and rebellion to this idea. He does not want to see a flat world. He wants to see a weird, colourful world where people can be who they want to be.
